Questions from a Muslim Answered
I recently got a series of questions from a muslim reader that I thought were sincere, so instead of addressing it in the comments boxes, I’d write up a post with all my answers. See his original questions here. His questions will be in bold, my responses will be regular.
If Jesus is the “son” of God, where exactly does it say that in the bible and who is God’s wife…or are we to believe that God commanded us against adultry when he himself is guilty of it…?
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Who wrote the bible and what language was it orignally written in? If it was written by more than one person, translated and compiled into a book, isn’t it possible that it went thru an “editing” process whereby the final editor could have added or removed or changed whatever they pleased?
Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. The OT was well preserved by the Jews, there is no doubt about its accuracy. Not one scribe in their right mind would edit as they please. As for the NT, each writer was inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is clear about that. 2 Pet 1 says:
20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
2 Tim 3:
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Proverbs gives a warning to scribes and writers who think to add/subtract from God’s Word:
5 Every word of God is pure;
Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
6 Do not add to His words,
I can guide you to resources on why we can trust in the Bible. Here’s a quick summary why, think MAPS:
Manuscripts: The amount and age of the manuscripts that have survived the ages is astonishing. No other work can surpass the Bible in that regard.
Archaeology: Every shovel that uncovers new finds verifies Biblical history.
Prophecy: The Bible is dead-on in regards to prophecies made and fulfilled throughout history.
Statistics: The Bible contains 66 books, written by approximately 40 different writers, over 1600 years, on 3 different continents, in 3 different languages, on thousands of different subjects, yet with one central theme—God’s redemption of mankind from sin won for the whole world by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It doesn’t contradict itself despite the many writers and time periods.
Do you believe in GOD, the One,Almighty, Most Powerful, All Knowing ,Creator of all things?
Do you believe in angels? Yes
Do you believe that there are “books” that contain the word of God and that they are a guidance for people of faith?
The only book that is considered the Word of God is the 66 books that form the Biblical canon. I’m sure there are others throughout history who have been inspired by the Holy Spirit, but each prophet and writer must be tested according to Scripture. If they go against what the Bible teaches, they are false.
Do you belive that there is a heaven and a hell and that we all have to answer to our deeds on the day of judgement?
I believe there is a heaven, and that hell refers to God’s final judgement for the wicked. It is not a place of eternal torment. See my studies here:
Do you belive that God can and has sent people to remind us that He is Lord and that we should worship Him?
Of course. Thats what people like me are here for, to spread the Good News.
